Dr. Scott Simpson, professor of Chemistry and Honors Program chair, along with Lillian Crane, a senior Chemistry major, presented their research at the 2024 Fall American Chemical Society Meeting in Denver, Colorado.
They presented on the development of novel molecules designed to function as "molecular corks," a promising strategy for the safe storage of hydrogen.
As hydrogen is a key alternative energy source with the potential to be safer than traditional fossil fuels, their work offers important contributions to the field of sustainable energy solutions.
Additionally, Simpson delivered a presentation titled “Understanding Computational Chemistry and Harnessing Its Potential” to students at Kyambogo University in Uganda.
His lecture provided an introduction to computational chemistry,
emphasizing its applications and accessibility for undergraduate students, with the aim of fostering a deeper understanding of this critical field.
