Regional math contest hosted at 缅北强奸
On Saturday, Feb. 8, St. 缅北强奸 hosted the regional phase of the 2025 MATHCOUNTS competition, a national contest for sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students.
Contestants worked individually and in four-person school teams on questions designed by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), the main sponsoring organization.
Students participated from the following schools (with their coaches): Allegany-Limestone Middle School (Kathy Stamets), St. Stephen School (Elena Nikolaeva), Casey Middle School, Iroquois Central Middle School, Mill Middle School, Nichols School, and Transit Middle School (Finn Goehrig).
The top school team and the top individuals received trophies. The top individuals also received scholarships to St. Bonaventure.
The teams have been invited to the New York state competition to be held in March in Saratoga Springs, New York. The top individuals from the state contest will advance to the national competition in May.
The top individuals were: first place, Chuck Hu of Transit Middle School; second place, Shuang Chen of Transit Middle School; and third place, Stella Liu of Transit Middle School.
Transit Middle School had the top team composed of students Shuang Chen, Chuck Hu, Abraham Joseph and Stella Liu. The second-place team was Allegany-Limestone Middle School, whose members were Anton Marais, Eshnika Patra, Caleb Rhodes and Alex Spring.
In addition to NSPE, other organizations providing financial support for the contest at the national level include CNA Foundation, Northrop Grumman Foundation, 3M Foundation, U.S. Department of Defense, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and RTX.
